World champion Remco Evenepoel, big favorite of the Tour of Italy, fell on Wednesday during the fifth stage of the Giro, when a dog crossed the road, before leaving, helped by several team members.
On a road made slippery by the rain, the Belgian went to the ground more than 150 km from the finish, in a village crossing without difficulty.
On the television images, we can see a dog crossing the road just before and causing the fall of an Evenepoel teammate at Soudal-Quick Step.
The second in the general classification then fell in turn to find himself on the shoulder, in the gravel.
He took a little time to get up, before changing bikes and setting off again, accompanied by several team members.
Without too much seriousness apparently since the Belgian gave the thumbs up in front of the camera, before returning to the peloton a few minutes later.
The fifth stage of the Giro should take the peloton over 171 km from Atripalda to Salerno.
