Hakim Ziyech, semi-finalist of the last World Cup with Morocco, confides in the course of the Atlas Lions. The frustration is still immense.
The 2022 World Cup carried out by Morocco will be remembered for a long time. The Atlas Lions made it to the semi-finals by knocking out big nations like Spain and Portugal before falling to the Blues. Morocco then ended in defeat by losing to Croatia in the game for 3rd place. A course that can make Moroccans proud, but which still leaves a bitter taste to Hakim Ziyech, the great craftsman of the course of his selection in Qatar.
Ziyech still frustrated by loss to France

We were so close and we just didn’t reach the final. I wouldn’t say sadness, but the disappointment was great. For the outside world it was nice because we had never reached this stage of a World Cup, but when you are on the pitch, it is only about one thing: winning. And we didn’t.”

We understand the disappointment of the former player of Ajax Amsterdam and Morocco really did not deserve against France in the semi-finals. Despite the titles he already has on his list, Ziyech finds it hard to digest not having been able to add the most prestigious trophy in football. Perhaps in 2026, during the World Cup jointly organized by the United States, Canada and Mexico?
