Courted for years, the former captain of FC Nantes, Abdoulaye Touré, will defend the colors of the Guinea. On Wednesday evening, the Guinean Football Federation (FGF) announced the arrival of the Genoa midfielder following a meeting with coach Kaba Diawara. Because of his late choice, at age 28, of his past refusalsand his complicated club situation (only 3 appearances in Serie B), the former French U20 international is aware that he risks being accused of opportunism.
“Those around me, my loved ones know that I am very attached to my country. It is true that the request to join the Syli has been made for a while and until today I had not responded. I start from the principle that everything is a question of meeting, there is no chance. So today if I decided to represent the colors of my country, it’s because I really want to. Not because before I didn’t feel like it but as I say, it’s all about the date“, argued the native of Nantes on the official website of the FGF. “I think I have arrived at a time when I am sure I am ready to wear the colors of my country and make my loved ones proud. (…) I am Guinean, I am proud of it. Many will believe that it is a decision that is taken late. Everyone is free to think what they want. Me anyway, as I said, today is the right time to join the team.»

A competitive industry
The Abdoulaye Touré Nantes version would clearly have done good for the Syli National, it remains to be seen what his current version can bring, who plays little and who will have to manage to find a place for himself in a midfield where competition is tough with the presence of Naby Keita, Amadou Diawara, or even Ilaix Moriba…
