The day after the defeat of Espérance de Tunis, in the semi-finals of the African Champions League against Al Ahly (0-3), Nabil Maaloul left the Sang et Or bench.

It’s an announcement that has the effect of a bomb. Less than 24 hours after the humiliation experienced on the lawn of the Radès stadium, the coach Nabil Maaloul announced his departure at the head of the Reds and Yellows, a year before the end of his contract (this expired on June 30, 2024). “I understand the sadness and disappointment of the fans after this difficult loss, and I apologize to all the fans for not being able to bring joy to the hearts of our old fans last night”published the 60-year-old technician this Saturday on Facebook.

“The task was not easy”

“Recently it has not been easy for me and the rest of the technical team and the players for several reasons which can be explained in the current situation; but I tried my best to find the appropriate solutions, overcome the difficulties and obtain the best possible results”added Maâloul whose record with the Tunisian club is 20 wins and 7 losses in 35 games played.

“We have succeeded in some things and failed in other things, and the man makes mistakes and gets hurt. Mainly for the benefit of my Tunisian sports team, I decided to step down and submit my resignation to the president of the club. I invite all Tarja fans to continue to support the players and support them in the rest of their journey in the league, cup and African champions league”concluded the former coach of the Tunisia team.

After a catastrophic first leg at home, ES Tunis travel to Cairo, Egypt, next Friday, with the daunting task of overthrowing Al Ahly. An (almost) impossible mission for the Sang et Or, as they lacked arguments against the Red Devils in Radès.
