After Félix Sanchez Bas for 5 years and his failed career at the 2022 World Cup at home, Qatar has entrusted the reins of his team to a coach with great experience.
Qatar changes plans. For the 2022 World Cup organized at home, in Doha and its surroundings, the Qatari leaders had bet on the Spaniard Félix Sanchez Bas in 2017. This former youth coach at Barça (then trainer at the Aspire Academy) had the mission to advance Qatari internationals while playing quality football.
After the failure at the World Cup (3 defeats, only one goal scored), the Qatari federation decided on the spot by turning the page Félix Sanchez Bas to hire… Carlos Queiroz! The very experienced Portuguese technician (69 years old) is already preparing for the 2023 Asian Nations Cup, which will also be held in Qatar (but the dates of which are not yet known).

Queiroz, 69, remains on bad experiences as a coach. The former assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United was fired from Colombia in December 2020, due to the results of the Cafeteros, before returning to Egypt. The Pharaohs lost in the final of the African Cup of Nations on penalties against Senegal a year ago, before being eliminated in the play-offs of the 2022 World Cup against these same Teranga Lions.
