Since October 2022 and the withdrawal of the organization of CAN 2025 from Guinea, African football fans have been waiting impatiently to know the identity of the host country chosen to host the tournament in its place.

Last month, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe, calmed things down on this subject and assured that the body did not set no deadline for this ad. In recent weeks, however, many have bet on the FIFA Congress, scheduled for March 16 in Kigali, Rwanda. If this idea was indeed seriously considered, it was finally abandoned, the magazine tells us this Wednesday. Young Africa ! So don’t expect to know the identity of the lucky winner in the next few days…

The announcement postponed to July?

While South Africa, Algeria, Morocco, Zambia and the Benin-Nigeria duo are candidates, CAF would indeed still await the inspection reports of the independent audit firm responsible for inspecting the various countries. . In addition, King Mohammed VI is to be decorated by the Pan-African body on March 14 in Kigali for his “contribution to African football” and the announcement at the same time of the choice of the host country, especially if it were to be Morocco, would give too much the impression that the dice are stacked in favor of the Cherifian Kingdom, better established behind the scenes of CAF and featured as favorite these last weeks.

In this context, the body could give up making its announcement in the first quarter of 2023 and would consider possibly waiting until July 13 and the general meeting scheduled for Cotonou in Benin. Hoping that the diplomatic tensions between Algeria and Morocco will calm down by then and make this file a little less sensitive…
