Last representative of Ligue 1 on the European scene, OGC Nice qualified for the quarter-finals of the Conference League. A necessity.

PSG, OM, Monaco, Nantes, Rennes… all fell more or less early this season on the continental scene. Only the Gym remains today, in the Conference League, the third European competition born last season. With the Aiglons already having a ticket to the quarter-finals in their pocket. Sesame obtained in two victories signed at the expense of Sheriff Tiraspol.

A week after their short success in Moldova (0-1), the Niçois took the cover home this Thursday evening (3-1), strong in achievements to the credit of Laborde (30e), Moffi (53e) and Brahimi (79e), the three starting attackers of the day. The stirring Tapsoba saved the honor of his team (54e), but without worrying the Azureans sure of their football since the arrival at the controls of Digard.

Station in the Netherlands

Now in its path, OGC Nice can fear West Ham, Fiorentina, La Gantoise, Anderlecht, AZ Alkmaar, FC Basel or even Lech Poznan. Presumed favorites Lazio and Villarreal have by this stage fallen from the round of 16 – ahead of Alkmaar and Anderlecht respectively – leaving the field relatively open.

That’s good, France badly needs UEFA points this season to maintain its rank of fifth European force. An additional ticket in C1 is in play from 2024, and if Portugal is no longer a threat by the end of the season, this is not the case for the Netherlands, who are hot on our elite with still two ambassadors in the running: Feyenoord Rotterdam in the Europa League and AZ in this Conference League.
