Kevin Mayer is back in business. The Frenchman, leader of the Blues, will take part in the European indoor athletics championship, which will take place this weekend, near Istanbul in Turkey. On the occasion of this event, the Habs will be on track for the heptathlon event. As for his big goal of the year, it will take place this summer, near Budapest.

This Thursday, Kevin Mayer appeared before the press. And in words reported by theAFPthe athlete confided: “ I’m physically fit, I feel calm, much less stressed than usual in the league, I’m discovering a new state. I’m not in the frame of mind to reach a record, I just want to give everything to win. Gold is going to be hard to come by, depending on the form of Switzerland’s Simon Ehammer, although I’m still the favourite. I want to be surprised by this championship. It is clearly a preparation competition for the world championships this summer in Budapest. It’s a fun competition, a bit of a vacation. A heptathlon means no 400m at the end of the first day, so less fatigue and an easier second day with a 1000m rather than a 1500m to finish. »

Mayer already has a solid track record in heptathlon

The heptathlon will see Mayer compete in the disciplines of 60 meters, length, shot put, high jump, 60 meters hurdles, pole vault, not to mention the 1000 meters. In terms of his record, the Habs have a world champion title in 2018, two in Europe, in 2017 then 2021 and he is even a European record holder., with 6479 points achieved in 2017. As for the decathlon, the Frenchman, now 31, is a world record holder, double world champion and double Olympic vice-champion. This winter, Kevin Mayer has yet to compete in a single heptathlon in its entirety.
