Préambule
Vince Lombardi a déclaré que “gagner n’est pas une chose de temps en temps, c’est une chose de tous les temps”; pendant six ans, gagner pour l’Italie n’était pas une chose de temps – jusqu’à Cardiff en 2022. L’héroïsme de dernière minute de Capuozzo et Padovani contre le Pays de Galles a commencé à pointer les fissures structurelles de l’équipe italienne et les ont poussés à leur toute première victoire contre l’Australie à l’automne.Ce n’était pas tout simple après Cardiff, comme le démontrerait une mauvaise défaite contre la Géorgie et une dissimulation des Springboks, mais on dirait les dix derniers mois ont marqué une nouvelle époque dans le rugby masculin italien où, pour reprendre la paraphrasation de Lombardi, ils cherchent à faire les choses correctement tout le temps pour faire de la victoire une habitude.
Une grande partie de cela reste en cours, les U20 semblant plus forts que jamais, le développement continu de leur groupe de jeu senior le plus fort depuis leur précédent sommet à la fin des années 2000 et un entraîneur sensé à Kieran Crowley.
Ils feraient bien de réfléchir à tout cela après avoir inévitablement perdu aujourd’hui ; ils jouent le millésime 2022-23 de la France, après tout.
Les hommes de Fabien Galthie chercheront certainement à faire de la victoire une chose intemporelle, jusqu’à la finale de la Coupe du monde à Paris en octobre.
Aujourd’hui est la prochaine étape pour les deux équipes, bien que pour des raisons différentes.
