Namasté camarades ! Bienvenue au Stade Holkar d’Indore pour ce troisième Test entre l’Inde et l’Australie dans le cadre du Trophée Border-Gavaskar 2023.
Malheureusement pour l’Australie, ce trophée appartient à l’Inde après deux victoires convaincantes à Nagpur et Delhi. Mais il reste encore beaucoup à faire pour les casquettes vertes. Ils peuvent concilier la série avec des victoires ici et le quatrième lieu de test Ahmedabad… bien que l’Inde ait gagné deux fois par 10 guichets en deux jours à ce dernier, Ravi Ashwin et Axar Patel revendiquant 35 des 40 guichets proposés.
Alors visons un peu plus bas : si l’Australie fait match nul ou remporte les deux derniers tests, elle peut s’assurer une place dans le championnat du monde de test contre, vous l’avez deviné, l’Inde. Plus important encore, ils peuvent redonner une certaine fierté à la casquette verte baggy mal battue.
Après leur capitulation folle à Delhi, l’Australie a été mise au pilori dans la presse et entassée par une légion de grands du test qui ont déploré leur approche T20 « frapper jusqu’à ce que vous sortiez » et leur dévotion semblable à celle d’un lemming pour le balayage. L’implosion était d’autant plus choquante que l’Australie était fermement dans l’ascendant lorsque les manches ont commencé. Mais c’est drôle le vieux jeu de cricket, surtout en Inde.
Quoi qu’il en soit, ne regardons pas en arrière avec colère. À juste titre, la quête de l’Inde pour un balayage net se poursuivra aujourd’hui dans « la ville la plus propre de l’Inde » sur un terrain désertique où Steve Smith estime que « nous allons voir beaucoup de spin joué ». Soothsayer Smith est le capitaine suppléant de l’Australie pour ce test et le suivant, après que Pat Cummins soit rentré la semaine dernière à Sydney pour être avec sa mère, Maria.
