FC Barcelona won on the field of Real Madrid (0-1) in the semi-final first leg of the King’s Cup. The second leg will take place on April 5 in Catalonia.
The ascendancy is always for the Catalans. Since October 16, and Real Madrid’s victory (3-1) in the Clasico to go to La Liga, it is FC Barcelona who have taken power in Spanish football.
The Blaugranas widened the gap at the top of the championship, then they won the Spanish Super Cup by beating the Madrid rivals on the way (3-1). And now Barça is taking an option on the Copa del Rey final, after their victory at Santiago-Bernabeu (0-1) in the semi-final first leg.
Xavi’s men were not the favorites of this meeting, however, since they were deprived of Pedri, Ousmane Dembélé and Robert Lewandowski. But they were able to find the fault in the counter-attack, with against Franck Kessié, who provoked the CSC of Militao (0-1, 26th).
Real impotent
Above all, the Barcelonans defended perfectly, in a style that is not necessarily theirs, with 36% possession of the ball. Real was not really dangerous, except for an attempt by Vinicius Jr well repelled by Ronald Araujo (49th). On the contrary, in a not very exciting meeting, it was Barça who had a 2-0 ball, but Kessié’s shot was taken off the goal by… Ansu Fati, involuntarily (72nd).
Barça therefore retains the ascendancy, and will have two opportunities to strike against its rival at Camp Nou: March 19 for the return match in La Liga, then April 5 for the second act of this semi-final of Cut.
