Former Premier League boss Alan Pardew has urged the FA to vary the handball legislation following Arsenal‘s draw at Chelsea. Pardew claims Gunners defender William Saliba was unfairly punished for dealing with the ball in his personal space.
The ball clearly struck Saliba’s arm following a cross which was headed in direction of aim by Mykhaylo Mudryk. The defender tried to go the ball away however the contact from Mudryk took it onto his outstretched arm.
Referee Chris Kavanagh did not see it as a penalty in actual time however VAR advisable a pitchside evaluate, which in the end noticed him level to the spot. Pardew says, within the present state of the legislation, {that a} penalty was the appropriate resolution.
However he believes the wording of an “unnatural” arm place should be modified. Pardew says it’s practically not possible to resolve whether or not an arm motion was certainly pure or not.
He mentioned on talkSPORT: “My view is that unnatural arm motion, I’ve an issue with that complete idea. As a result of unnatural arm motion could be very tough to evaluate.
“I’ve coached gamers for 30 years and at any time when they’re defending, once they’re throwing their our bodies round, once they’re attempting to get a block in, once they’re unbalanced they usually should get again on steadiness, their arms are all the time in unnatural positions. However it’s not till the ball hits it that it does look unnatural.
“Saliba goes up in that place and he is actually attempting to go the ball and it hits his arm. Okay, because the rule stands it is a penalty and I get that, I’ve obtained no downside with that.
“However it’s the rule that we have to change. Followers should not silly, they’re sensible folks. Each Chelsea fan in that stadium was up when it hit his hand, they know, they put the referee below stress.
